International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement : OECD

This is an international survey which aims to assess the level of learning attained by 15-year-old students worldwide by using a test jointly developed by participating countries. Every three years, a randomly-selected group of 15-year-old students takes tests in the key subjects: reading, mathematics and science.

International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement : IEA

This research focusing on children in the fourth grade, their teachers, principals and parents, has been conducted every five years since 2001.


Chinese Institute of Publishing Science : CIPS

  • National reading survey

This survey began in 1999 and it has been conducted every year since 2006. It reveals the reading habits of those aged 18 or under.

North America

National Endowment for the Arts : NEA

The report, which was released in 2007, examines reading activities of children, teenagers and adults in the USA based on the statistics of 40 reading surveys.


Scholastic Corporation, a publisher and distributor of children’s books in the USA, has been conducting a national survey targeting children between 6 and 17 years of age and their parents every two years since 2006.


Stiftung Lesen

National reading survey targeting German speakers aged 14 and over has been conducted every eight years since 1992.
