This survey is conducted by prefectural boards of education to be used as reference by school library administration. Survey items include assignment of librarian teachers, collections of materials and reading activities in elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, secondary schools and schools for special needs education.

This survey is conducted to measure the degree of achievement of goals written in “New IT Reform Strategy” in all public schools (elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, secondary schools and schools for special needs education). The survey focuses on Information technology in school education such as ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in schools, and teachers’ ability to utilize ICT.

School Library Association

This survey has been conducted every year since 1963. 3% of elementary, junior high and high school (including evening high school and private high school) students are selected randomly to examine assignment of librarian teachers, collections of materials and reading activities. “Collection of materials,” “Staff” and “Expense” are always included in the survey items.

This survey has been conducted every year since 1954 by the Mainichi Newspapers and the School Library Association.
