1905 - 1985

Yasui was born in Shiga prefecture in 1905. Starting around 1921, he studied bijinga (images of beautiful women) painting under Kitano Tsunetomi. In 1931 he began illustrating for the Kodomo no kuni [Children's Land]. He started working part-time for the Ministry of Railways around 1943. He is known for his realistic illustrations of machines, vehicles in particular. In 1975 he became ill and his painting career came to an end.
