Commentaries

The comments in this online gallery were written by the International Library of Children's Literature staff, with reference to writings by Prof. Teruo Jingu (Professor Emeritus, Aoyama Gakuin University), formally a guest researcher at the ILCL. Prof. Jingu has advised us on this exhibition from the planning stages. We would like to thank him for his cooperation.

Exhibit Materials

The Winnington-Ingram Collection of Children's Books is the property of the ILCL. The ownership of respective materials viewable on external websites to which links are created from this website is as indicated on those websites.

As a general rule, the links are created between books of the same edition. Please note, however, that some minor differences may exist between the websites in their exhibits due to conservation conditions.

1. International Children's Digital Library (ICDL)

ICDL is an digital library project jointly inaugurated by the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory of the University of Maryland of the United States and the Internet Archive in 2002. The objective of this project is to make available outstanding children's books that are useful in promoting understanding of diverse cultures, societies, interests, lifestyles, etc. of peoples of the world. The project, operated by ICDL Foundation since 2006, had digitalized approximately 4,600 children's books in 61 languages by 2009 for online viewing via a 19-language interface search system.

2. Internet Archive

A non-profit organization founded in the United States in 1996 by Brewster Kahle, Internet Archive archives a variety of information available on the Internet (video, music, books, etc.) using a system called Wayback Machine and makes this collection available to the general public as an Open Library.
