Commentary

This is the creator's debut work in Japan. The separated mouths of goldfish, bills of ducks, and finally the cheeks of the parents and child all come together at the spine of the picture book (the center of facing pages). The picture book was inspired by the creator's daughter, who normally did not smile or laugh much, but would laugh and smile when their cheeks were put together.
