Commentary: This is a picture book which depicts the growth of morning glories, a plant which is familiar to children in Japan. The colorful shapes of the flowers which decorate the pages and the differences in color on the fronts and backs of the leaves suggest that the artist carefully observed actual morning glories when drawing the work.
