ILCL Digital Content: Enjoyable content from Japan!

【2023-E002】

In recent years, the International Library of Children’s Literature (ILCL) has made an effort to enrich digital content that can be accessed by anyone anywhere in the world. This article introduces some ILCL digital content either that can be enjoyed in English or visually even by people who don’t understand Japanese.

Video messages—SDGs and Children's Books: What Libraries Can Do

The ILCL produces and distributes a number of videos on the topic of the SDGs, featuring interviews with people involved in children’s books. Each video is about 10 to 20 minutes long with both English and Japanese subtitles. Our interviewees include the Director of the United Nations Information Centre, the IBBY President, the JBBY President and picture book authors from Japan and elsewhere. Each video contains unique and fascinating messages from people talking about their efforts to achieve SDGs and what we can do for children.

* Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted in 2015 by consensus of all member countries of the United Nations, with the goal of achieving them by 2030.

Digital Exhibitions

These digital exhibitions feature materials from the ILCL and NDL collections and are open to the public, although some are in Japanese only. The many topics covered include the history of Japanese children’s literature and picture books, Japanese children’s books translated and published abroad, and the ILCL’s collection of rare books from Japan and abroad.

Virtual Reality Library Tour

Our 3D virtual tour is in Japanese, but you can intuitively enjoy a 360° panoramic view of the Brick Building of the ILCL. Explore the renaissance-style Brick Building anytime from wherever you are.
