When first published in 1719, The life and adventures of Robinson Crusoe was not intended for children. Many abridged versions that appeared later made this book accessible to children and gave birth to Robinsonades, stories for children modeled after Robinson Crusoe. In the Juvenile Literature as It is, it was surveyed 1888 that, this was the boys' best-read book.
