Great picture books of the Showa era

The 1960's to 1970's can be considered the Golden Age of the Picture Book in Japan, and during this period a diverse variety of picture books were created by picture book authors and artists. Many long-selling books, such as "Guri to Gura [Guri and Gura]" and "Darumachan to Tenguchan [Little Daruma and Little Tengu]", were created during this period, and by the 1980's had become fixtures as old favorites for many people. These great picture books of the Showa era not only continue to be read by many readers of all ages even today, but also greatly influenced the picture book creators of the following Heisei Era.
