Parking lot and Access

A parking lot is available for physically-disabled users. Please ask the entrance staff for use. There is a limit to the parking spaces, so please contact us in advance to ensure a space to park.
If you use JR Ueno Station, the Park Gate is convenient. Ueno Park is wheelchair accessible.

Barrier-free

All the area including the terrace is wheelchair accessible.

Braille block

Braille blocks are placed on elevator floors, stairs etc.

Elevator

Wheelchair button and mirror are placed in all elevators.

Restroom

There is a multipurpose toilet on each floor.
The multipurpose toilets on the first and second floor of the Arch Building are ostomate-friendly.
A universal seat is installed in the multipurpose restroom side on the second floor of the Brick Building.

Wheelchair and cane rental

Wheelchairs and walking assistance canes are available at the Entrance Counter. Please ask the staff.
There is a limit to the number, so please contact us in advance to make sure one will be available.

Guide dogs

Sight-, physically- and/or hearing-impaired users can use the library with a guide dog.

Reading aids for persons with print disabilities

A magnifier and a computer terminal are available in the Researchers' Reading Room to aid persons with print disabilities when searching or browsing library materials. Software for playing DAISY materials and other reading aids are installed on the terminal, and Braille display, Braille keyboard, and an audio magnifying reader machine are also available. We accept reservations in advance to ensure availability.

Data Transmission Service for Persons with Print Disabilities

The NDL provides data for persons with print disabilities to institutions and to individual users, including persons with print disabilities, through the internet. This service is available through the "Material search for persons with disabilities" option in NDL Search.
Catalogues are available for anyone; however, NDL user registration is required in advance to use the data. Please refer to the "Data Transmission Service for Persons with Print Disabilities" page.

Services for persons with print disabilities

Registered users with print disabilities can request access to special materials. Recordings on cassette tapes or in DAISY format of children’s books and related materials as well as academic literature are available on request at the NDL.

Reading Room for persons with print disabilities

A reading room for persons with visual disabilities (group research room) is available in the Researchers' Reading Room for patrons who wish to have an assistant read library materials aloud. We accept reservations in advance to ensure availability.

Communication in writing and table-top conversation support device

We can communicate in writing at the counter in each room. Please inform us if you wish to do so.
In addition, there are table-top conversation support devices at counters in the Researchers' Reading Room and Teens' Research Room.
