Introduction

This nursery rhyme from the early seventeenth century tells of the story of Mr. Frog who goes to court Miss Mousey in the company of Rat, though against his mother’s warning. Caldecott personifies all the animals except the Duck, and the events of the tale are followed by a human family who witness the tragic end of the frog gobbled by the duck, and the events of the tale are followed by a human family that witnesses the tragic and of the frog gobbledup by the duck.
